Consultation has concluded

We would like to talk to people who have had a diagnosis of breast cancer within the last 10-15 years and have had radiotherapy treatment. We would like you to contribute your thoughts and opinions about the design of a research trial.

A UK radiotherapy research trial (FAST-Forward) has already shown that standard radiotherapy treatment for breast cancer can be delivered as safely and effectively in 1 week as treatment given in 3 weeks. People with a slightly higher risk of cancer returning (for example those 50 years and under, and/or those with higher grade cancers), are given an extra dose or “boost dose” of radiotherapy during their treatment and this is usually given over three or four weeks.

We are designing a clinical trial (FAST-Forward Boost) to test whether patients having radiotherapy to the breast including a boost dose can be safely and effectively treated in one week rather than three to four weeks.

We want to understand patients’ perspectives on this research to make sure the clinical trial is patient centred. Radiotherapy treatment needs people to attend hospital every day for treatment so we would really like to hear from people from all types of different backgrounds, different cultures, those who find it difficult to travel to hospital and have caring/work responsibilities.

Our planned online Focus Groups will be held on:

  • Wednesday 9th August at 15.00 - 16.00
  • Thursday 10th August 16.00 - 17.00

If you would like some more information or are interested in helping to shape this research project by attending one of the focus groups, please contact us by emailing [email protected] by the end of day on the 8th August.
