Help us provide earlier rehabilitation access to lung cancer patients

Patients with lung cancer often experience many life changing side effects of their cancer and their treatment. Currently, access to therapies including Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Dietetics is done via a referral once concerns are raised. However, there is no routine screening and information provided to support early rehabilitation at the point of diagnosis.
Our aim is to pilot a screening programme to be offered to new lung cancer patients to support early referral for these services to optimise symptoms, support tolerance of treatment and manage side effects. This will allow us to evidence the need for support in this group and support ongoing development of this pathway.
We are looking for people who have lived experience of lung cancer and treatment to share their thoughts, ideas and feedback through group discussions on how patients may feel completing this screening at diagnosis. We will also discuss how best to approach and share information with these patients and how they would wish to access these services. This will help us to develop our project, making sure that it considers the needs and preferences of the patients.
How can you get involved?
We are looking for individuals to attend two group meetings over a 6 month period. We aim to host our first group by the end of May 2026 and the second in August/ September. We will offer in-person and online hybrid meetings to support the group to attend. If you would like to be part of these group discussions please email [email protected].
