Welcome to our newsletters, updating professionals and members of the public about Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPI/E) at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, The Institute of Cancer Research, London, The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and the Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at the Royal Marden and the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR).
These newsletters are co-produced by the Royal Marsden PPI/E Team and patients, carers and members of the public who support us.
One highlight of the latest Winter issue (no 11):
More patients and public are shaping research – Here’s why
There’s good news from the Health Research Authority: more studies than ever are involving patients and the public. Latest analysis shows that 84% of research applications in 2024 reported public involvement, up from 74% in 2023—a 10% jump in just one year.
Why does this matter? Because research is stronger when it reflects the voices of the people it’s designed to help. Public involvement makes studies more relevant, improves participant experience, and builds trust. So, what’s driving this positive change? See more in Issue 11 on the right of this page.
